    Mr Alok Tiwari qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, London in 1996. He then undertook basic surgical training at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Essex from 1997-2000. Mr Tiwari undertook a Master of Surgery degree at the Royal Free Hospital in London from 2000-2. His thesis was the ‘Development of a hybrid cardiovascular graft using a tissue engineering approach’. He presented and published extensively from this.

    Mr Alok Tiwari received specialist registrar training in London and Essex in both general and vascular surgery from 2002-7 and 2008-10. From 2007 to 2008 he undertook a one year Vascular fellowship in Australia where he learnt endovascular techniques to allow the treatment of patients using minimally invasive methods including angioplasty and Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR).

    He worked as a locum consultant for 4 months in the vascular unit at Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. Mr Tiwari was appointed to University Hospital Birmingham (formerly Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Selly Oak Hospital) in Jan 2011. He perform some general surgical procedures (all types of hernias) but his main practice is in all aspects of vascular surgery. He is also involved with his diabetic colleagues in developing a diabetic foot service.

    Mr Alok Tiwari's research interest includes preconditioning in vascular surgery and the diabetic foot. He has over 50 published articles in journals as well as book chapters.
